{LosCuellar.com.mx 541} 20 July: Hispanic Tuesday

Dear Researcher:

Please join me on Tuesday, July 20, from 12 noon to 9pm for an afternoon and
evening of research (flyer attached) at:

Southern California Genealogical Society Library
417 Irving Drive
Burbank, California 91504-2408

Directions: 818-843-7247

Attendees can receive assistance with their own research problems, get help
getting started, and network with other researchers. One of our guest
experts will be John Schmal who specializes in Mexico research and will be
available after 5pm. We have collected several articles by John into a
booklet entitled "Mexican Research Tips" which will be available for $2. You
can also read one of John's documents in PDF: The Mexican Genealogy, that is
now posted on the web:

There will be assistance for New Mexico researchers--Tom Martinez will
probably drop by after 5pm and if you are a California researcher, I am
hopeful that Joseph Sepulveda Barnes, past President of Los Californianos
will be able to join us.   I will be on hand to coordinate and help you get
started, get organized and find answers. A "Getting Started" booklet that
contains information on timelines, getting organized and a collection of my
favorite forms is available for $3.

PLEASE NOTE:  The SCGS computers allow researchers access to several
subscription only websites for genealogists, including Ancestry.com.  I have
negotiated with the SCGS Library, whose policy is that only SCGS members are
allowed to use their computers, for our researchers to use the computers for
a small fee. If you attend Hispanic Tuesday, you can use their computers
from 12 noon - 9pm for $3 the entire time or you can pay $2 for each hour.
So please sign in with me when you arrive.

In 2007 we received a donation from the Whittier Area Genealogical Society
[WAGS] of a set of bound books entitled Historia, Genealógica de las
Familias Más Antiguas de México. These volumes are now available in the
reference library. Although written in Spanish, I found my rusty college
Spanish permitted me to translate enough so that if I found an ancestor I
would be able to extract dates, relationships, titles, and more. The book I
checked gives familial information as well as a full color page of each
noble¹s coat of arms. There is a listing of a different generation, plus a
history and biography of the noble, telling of his birth, where he lived,
his education, and the positions and titles he has held and when the events
took place. A description of the shield/coat of arms is also given. These
are well worth viewing if only for the gorgeous artwork and checking out the
index, which lists other names associated with these members of nobility.

For those of you unable to attend Hispanic Tuesday, please direct
specific questions to me so that I might forward your queries to our
valued genealogical experts. Give us as much information as possible. You
don't have to live in Southern California to benefit from our programs and
knowledge.

I usually take a dinner break after 5pm so join me by brown-bagging it, or
there are several nearby take-out restaurants.
