Dear Primos and friends:

I am sending this out on Memorial Day Monday. Our newspapers, radio, and television are filled with ceremonies and observances of the great debt we owe to our brave military, those who died, served, and are coming back damaged in body and spirit. The current media technology has made us aware of the hatred and suffering of so many. We are a global community. Wars, wherever they are taking place, bring tragedy into the lives of all us, in varying degrees.
We must protect our country. With all its faults, we are still the best nation in the world. Let us pray that our leaders will be guided to strengthen the United States. We need to build the United States back up, to prepare for an uncertain tomorrow, by returning to the precepts and foundation of our United States Constitution. As Hispanics/Latinos, we helped build America, now let us step up and help to protect it in our local communities and wherever we have some influence to do so.

The Society of Hispanic Historical and Ancestral Research gave an award directly to National History Day. The winner of the SHHAR Award in California is high school student, Christopher Cruz. Christopher produced a documentary, The Chicano Revolution to Reform the Public Education System. His documentary will compete on the national level. As a society, SHHAR's purpose by giving an award was to encourage history research in the area of the Hispanic historic presence in the United States.
Also, we would like to invite you, if you have family, friends, or local heroes of outstanding recognition, in any area, please do send information about their accomplishments. We want to acknowledge our primos and celebrate with them. Everyone is blessed by the good that others produce. There seems to be so much effort to stifle success, we need to applaud those that pull away and ahead to improve themselves and their surroundings.

Thanks to all who send GREAT articles and bits of information. I am always surprised and pleased with the variety of subjects.
God bless America, Mimi
